Tamil Nadu minister D Jayakumar alleged that AMMK leader TTV Dhinakaran group has been tarnishing his image by circulating ‘doctored’ audio clips. The audio clips reportedly contained a discussion over a women’s pregnancy and Jayakumar has claimed that the voice in the audio is not his and that he is ready for any probe.
When the calls for Jayakumar’s ouster by the Dhinakaran camp getting louder, the former told the scribes that it’s a conspiracy to defame him. He vowed to legal action against those who are behind it. MLAs P Vetrivel and Thanga Tamilselvan, from the Dhinakaran camp, sought the resignation of Jayakumar for the accusations against him.
“I will file a case and lodge a complaint..they (those who released it) have released this defamatory audio to defame me…this is a planned conspiracy,” the minister was quoted as saying by The Indian Express. Jayakumar had said that the reason for this is political vendetta.
However, two audio clips surfaced on social media on Monday where the conversation between a woman and an unidentified man was about impregnating the woman’s daughter and request for abortion. With allegations coming thick and fast linking Jayakumar to the audio, the minister rejected all claims and made it clear that he is ready for any investigation.
Back in 2017, Jayakumar’s morphed visuals were doing the rounds on social media and three men were put under arrest after he lodged a police complaint. He said that since that effort failed, they have come up with a new one. “Technology has developed so much. The voice has been doctored and it has been circulated in social media. This is unacceptable,” he said.
Linking Jayakumar to the scandal, Vetrivel urged the Chief Minister K Palaniswami to sack Jayakumar from the cabinet. “Prove that you (Jayakumar) are innocent after resigning from your post…you should face inquiry after stepping down,” Vetrivel said.
