Former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna awardee Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last at 17:05 hours (IST) at All India Institute of Medical Sciences in the National capital on Thursday. Soon after the news broke, Congress president Rahul Gandhi shared his condolences saying ‘Today India lost a great son.”
Sharing his condolences, he wrote, “Today India lost a great son. Former PM, Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji, was loved and respected by millions. My condolences to his family & all his admirers. We will miss him. #AtalBihariVajpayee”
Earlier in the day, he paid a visit to the beloved former Prime Minister at AIIMS on Thursday. This was the second time he went to see him. He had also prayed for the speedy recovery of the beloved politician.
Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi, for the last nine weeks. Apart from age-related issues, Vajpayee also suffered multi-organ failure, along with kidney tract infection and chest congestion. He was also a diabetic patient. In addition, his urine output was on the lower side.
