IPL 2021 :
Background
On 30 January 2021, the BCCI confirmed that they were confident to host the tournament in India. They also said that the UAE wasn’t being considered as a backup venue. Lately, the BCCI was considering hosting the tournament in a few shortlisted cities, which included Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Chennai, with Mumbai as an additional option.
On 7 March 2021, the BCCI announced the full schedule for the season. Six venues, including all the five shortlisted venues and the additional option Mumbai, were scheduled to host matches. To avoid home advantage, no team is scheduled to play at their home venue. The season is scheduled to start from 9 April, with the final taking place on 30 May at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The BCCI also confirmed that the tournament would begin behind closed doors and a call on letting spectators it would be taken at a later stage. It is also reported that two new teams would be auctioned in May 2021 at a base price of 1500 cr for the 2022 Season.

The 2021 Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 14, is scheduled to be played between 9 April to 30 May 2021 across six different venues in India. Mumbai Indians are the two times defending champions, having won both the 2019 and the 2020 seasons. After nearly two years, the IPL extravaganza will return home with Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata hosting the marquee event.
Highlights of IPL 2021:
Each team is set to play at four venues during the league stage. Out of the 56 league matches, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru will host 10 matches each while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each. One of the highlights of this edition of the VIVO IPL will be the fact that all the matches will be played at neutral venues, no team will play at their home venue. All teams will play at 4 out of 6 venues during the league stage.
There will be a total of 11 doubleheaders where 6 teams will play three-afternoon matches and two teams will play two afternoon matches. The afternoon games are slated for a 3:30 PM IST to start while the evening games will have a 7:30 PM IST start.
After hosting the tournament safely and successfully in the UAE last year with all safety protocols in place, the BCCI is confident of hosting the IPL at home with the health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount. The fixtures of the tournament have been mapped in a way that every team will travel only three times during the league stage, thus reducing commute and minimising risk. The VIVO IPL this year at home will be played behind closed doors to begin with and a call on allowing spectators will be taken at a later stage of the tournament.
