As soon as the election trends for five state Assembly polls showed BJP’s decline, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said saffron party is nowhere in the “semi-final” just ahead of the “final” — 2019 General Elections. She also called people the “man of the match” in a democracy.
“Semifinal proves that BJP is nowhere in all the states. This is a real democratic indication of 2019 final match. Ultimately, people are always the ‘man of the match’ of democracy. My congrats to the winners,” Mamata Banerjee tweeted.
Calling this a people’s verdict, the West Bengal CM said that the mandate showed that people are against BJP and they favour democracy. “People voted against BJP. This is the people’s verdict and victory of the people of this country. Victory of democracy and victory against injustice, atrocities, destruction of institutions, misuse of agencies, no work for poor people, farmers, youth, Dalits, SC, ST, OBC, minorities and general caste,” she reacted in a series of tweets on Tuesday.
Mamata Banerjee is Delhi
Mamata Banerjee, who is also the Trinamool Congress supremo, is in the national capital and is engaged in meetings with opposition to formulate strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha election in 2019. She said that trend is against BJP and it will hurt the saffron party in the next year’s election.
Mamata Banerjee has been a vehement critic of the Narendra Modi government at the centre and the recent being BJP’s proposed rath yatra in West Bengal. Following Trinamool Congress government’s refusal to give permission, the matter is pending before court and the two sides are engaged in verbal duel.
If trends are anything to go by, BJP is trailing in states like Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh while in Madhya Pradesh BJP still has a slight edge over Congress. In Telangana, TRS looks to be a runaway winner for the second time on the trot. In Mizoram, MNF looked to have sealed the deal with a huge margin against Congress.
