Javelin thrower Sundar-Singh Gurjar clinched a silver in the men’s F46 category, while two-time Paralympic gold-medallist Devendra Jhajharia finished fourth at the 2018 Asian Para Games on Thursday.
Gurjar claimed the silver with an effort of 61.33m in his fifth attempt, while another Indian Rinku won the bronze as India dominated the podium in the Javelin event. Rinku scored his personal best of 60.92m. Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Herath won the gold after smashing the Asian record with a throw of 61.84m.
Meanwhile, Avnil Kumar claimed a bronze in the men’s 400m T13 category with a timing of 52 sec, while Omid Zarifsanayei of Iran clocked 51.41 seconds to win the gold. Thailand’s Songwut Lamsan finished a fraction ahead of Avnil to win the silver.
A veteran Paralympic athlete, Gurjar is also a Khel Ratna awardee. He, however, faced disappointment at the Incheon Asian Games where he registered his that season’s best throw of 59.17m but still failed to win a medal.
