Asian Para Games: Ekta Bhyan clinches gold in women’s club throw event
Ekta Bhyan gave India her fourth gold medal at the Para Games on Tuesday by leading the women’s club throw event.
Her best came in her fourth attempt when her shot reached a distance of 16.02m which won her the top prize in the F32/51 event on Tuesday. UAE’s Alkaabi Thekra’s effort of 15.75m helped her settle for the silver medal.
Athletes with significant impairment in the hand features in the F32/51 category. Bhyan had entered the competition on the back of a gold medal which she had won at the Indian Open Para Athletics Championship earlier this year.
Jayanti Behera, Anandan Gunasekaran and Monu Ghangas also won three bronze medals for India on Tuesday.
In the men’s shot put F11, Ghangas secured a third-place finish. The F11 category is for the visually challenged athletes.

Gunasekaran put up a bronze medal-winning show in the T44/62/65 category which deals with impairments in the foot, ankle and /or lower leg. The athletes compete without prosthesis in this class.
In the women’s 200 m T45/46/47 event, which is for athletes with limb impairment, Behera pulled off a bronze medal-winning show to ensure India had a good day at the competition.
Sandeep Chaudhary on Monday came up with a world record effort in the javelin throw event as India had won a total of 11 medals, which included three gold.
