The 35-year-old, who had clinched the gold medal four years ago at the Incheon edition covered a distance of 62.26m, to finish behind China’s Chen Yang (65.12m) and Feng Bin (64.25) both of whom claimed the gold and silver medal respectively.

Seema’s best score of 62.26m came in the third attempt, while she managed to cover a distance of 58.51m in the first throw and 61.18m in the sixth throw. She fouled in the second, fourth and fifth attempt.

Her bronze medal-winning throw, however, covered more distance than her gold-winning effort in the 2014 event, where she had scored 61.03m.

A four-time Commonwealth Games medallist, Seema with two Asian medals is India’s highest ranked Discus Throw player.

Meanwhile, another Indian in the fray, Sandeep Kumari finished a disappointing fifth out of eight competitors with her best throw being the 54.61m, which she covered in the third attempt. She managed to make only three efforts none of which crossed the 60m mark. She had fouled in the other three attempts.

The current national champion, who had scored 58.41m to win the meet in Guwahati, failed to meet the expectations.
