The Indian women’s Kabaddi team raced to its third successive final at the Asian Games with a convincing 27-14 win over Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals in Jakarta, on Thursday.
The women’s team will be aiming for its third successive gold when they take on the winner of the match between Iran and Thailand in the finals. India had defeated Thailand 28-14 in the finals of the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, while they beat Iran 31-21 fours years later to claim the gold.
India women are yet to lose a game at the Asian Games Kabaddi event in this competition and had topped Group A after mauling Sri Lanka 38-12, before another big victory over Indonesia 54-22 in its final Group A match.
They had earlier pummeled Japan 43-12 and Thailand 32-23 in their opening group stage matches.
Meanwhile, the men’s team suffered a shocking 18-27 defeat against Iran to be knocked out of the Asian Games semi-finals. They will return with bronze medals making it the first time that India won’t be participating the Asiad Kabaddi final.
Ever since the game was introduced at the Asian Games in 1990, India had won all seven gold medals consecutively. But after the group stage defeat to South Korea, India finished as second from their Group and then lost to Iran in the semis.
