Indian tennis player Ankita Raina on Wednesday guaranteed herself a medal in the third singles category with a straight sets victory over Hong Kong’s Eudice Chong in the quarter-finals.
The 25-year-old assured India of its third women’s singles medal in the history of the Asian Games.
Raina, who is also India’s top-ranked tennis player made a grand comeback after being down by a 1-4 margin at one point of time and eventually went on to win the match 6-4, 6-1. She clinched victory in the first set in 54 minutes while it took her just 27 minutes to win the second one as well.
Raina had a tough start to the match as she trailed 0-3 and 1-4 at the very beginning. But a grand comeback on her part ensured that she walked away victorious and assured herself of a bronze medal at the ongoing 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
