Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan said that he had, “no shame” over admitting that he failed in England despite putting his best foot forward.
He also didn’t seem too bothered about potentially getting removed from the Test team for the series against the West Indies, after a string of low scores in England.
But he has done it in the past. Performing well for India in the limited overs’ format has earlier helped him come back to the Test side and his explosive form in the ongoing Asia Cup thus is a sign of good things to come for the left-hander.
“I think it always helps when you perform well (irrespective of the form). Agar fayda hona hoga to ho jayega, nahi hona hoga to nai hoga (we will see if my current form helps me in Tests). Whenever I play, red ball or white ball, I utilise whatever knowledge I have of the game,” he said, as quoted by the Deccan Chronicle.
Defending his poor form in England, he added, “If you talk about the England Test, I did not do well but I gave it all. Others played better than me. I accept it. There is no shame in it. Then I came here to play white ball cricket, had different plans because of different conditions. Sometimes they (plans) work sometimes they don’t.”
But the stylish batsman is well-aware of the threat that Bangladesh can come up with, especially after they clinched a sensational win against Pakistan in the Super Four match a day ago.
Defending 239, the bowlers turned on the heat as they restricted Pakistan to 202.
“Pakistan may be a bigger team on paper but Bangladesh played better cricket than them and are in the final again. They are always tough to beat, especially at home. They are showing by performances they have gotten so much better. They know how to play under pressure,” he said.
The opener further added, “They play fearlessly against big teams and you have to appreciate that. Having said that, it takes time (to win major events). For them reaching the final is an also a big thing. Hopefully, we will win tomorrow but you will see them crossing the barrier in some other tournament.”
