Ashwathama is one of the most talked about project from Bollywood, which was reportedly set in the backdrop of mythology. The Immortal: Ashwathama has been now shelved according to the latest reports. The makers are said to have already reported loss of Rs. 30 crore, which was invested in the pre-production. This one apparently starred Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan in main lead. The actors would have marked their first time collaboration.
According to a latest report by Bollywood Hungama, a source close to the development informed them, “Ashwathama has been in the prep stage for over two years now. The team did multiple recces, worked on the entire pre visualisation, did multiple meetings with the VFX team, got an international action unit on board to train Sara and Vicky for their action packed role over the last one year. Producer Ronnie Screwvala spent over Rs. 30 crore to get everything in place, and now, the entire investment has gone for a toss.”
The same report also mentions real reason behind project heading its way to being shelved. It is because of differences between the producer and the director. Ronnie Screwvala was not on the same page as Aditya Dhar while considering the creative as well as financial aspects for the highly anticipated movie.
The source further informs, “After investing a considerable chunk, Ronnie realised that the final budget of the film was going out of control and it would be difficult to recover the money even in the non Covid times. The film was initially planned to be made in a certain amount of budget, but as the pre-production work kicked off, the budget kept on increasing by the day. Finally, he felt that it’s better to let go off the investment of Rs. 30 crores, rather than burning his pockets in the longer frame of time. He had a meeting with his investors, actors and director and finally took the tough call of shelving the film.”
For the unversed, Ronnie Screwvala and Aditya Dhar had earlier collaborated for army drama, Uri: The Surgical Strike. This Vicky Kaushal starrer went to become a massive hit. The actor, director and producer would have marked their second time collaboration, if everything was on track for Ashwathama. The project is said to be completely shelved now.
