While celebrating the popular Dahi Handi (an earthen pot) festival in Maharashtra on Monday, Opposition Congress broke pots, symbolising the alleged ‘sins’ of the two governments — at Centre and at the State. Leading a protest in Karad of the state, former chief minister Ashok Chavan said that handi of government’s “sins” has got filled to the brim.
In the outreach programme — Jan Sangarsh Yatra — Chavan broke the two black handis, named Modi Sarkar, on the occasion of Dahi Handi festival. The leader was of the opinion that with this handi being broken, the sins of the Bharatiya Janata Party will come out in open and people of India will teach them a lesson in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Along with the Dahi Handi, party leaders and activists carried banners with messaged written that Handi of government’s ‘sins’ have got filled to the brim. Speaking at the occasion, Chavan commented, as reported by NDTV, “Now people will break the dahi handi of sins of this government in 2019.”
Participating in the outreach programme, Congress leaders shouted slogans against the two governments. In order to highlight the alleged failures of the BJP governments at the Centre and the State, the party had launched a Jan Sangarsh Yatra on Friday in Kolhapur and it will culminate in Pune on September 8.
Senior leaders from the state — Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and ex-state ministers Balasaheb Throat and Harshvardhan Patil — participated in the protest and also at the same time celebrated the festival.
