In a new trend, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal visits Tennis player Divij Sharan to felicitate him

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal felicitated Asian Games gold medallist Tennis player Divij Sharan and his coach at Safdarjung Club, reported PTI on Tuesday.

The player was given a cash reward of Rs one crore, while the coach was handed a reward of Rs 6 lakh by the CM.

In a turn of events, it was the first time that the officials of the government was visiting the players in their respective areas to individually felicitate them amidst their own people.

While earlier, the tradition was that all the players to be awarded by the government were to assemble together at the Delhi Secretariat or any other centralised venue, where the government officials would felicitate them together.

Sharan’s felicitation in his own area was among the first such initiative by the government and such ceremonies would continue in the respective areas of the all the medal-winning players from the state.

Meanwhile, the Kejriwal led APP government had weeks earlier increased the prize money of all the at Asian Games medal winners. While the cash prize was hiked from Rs 20 lakh to Rs 1 crore for gold medallist, it was increased from Rs 14 lakh to Rs 75 lakh for silver medallists and similarly from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh for bronze medal winners.
