10-year-old Arshdeep Singh from Jalandhar, Punjab, has won the 2018 Wildlife Photographer of the year award under the 10-years-and-under-category. His photo ‘Pipe Owls’ was awarded the best photograph by Britain’s Natural History Museum, which gives the annual award and is in its 53rd instalment this year.
There were three categories under the junior category, 10-year-and-under, 11-14 years and 15-17 years.
According to Arshdeep, the photograph was taken just outside Kapurthala, Punjab, while he was driving through that area with his father. He spotted an owlet popping his head out from an old waste-pipe and immediately asked his father to stop the car.
“I saw the owls fly in the tube and I told my dad. He said that’s not possible, but he stopped the car. We had to wait 20 or 30 minutes until they came out again, and then I took the picture,” Arshdeep was quoted as saying by India Times.
“After his keen observational skills helped him see these spotted owlets Arshdeep waited patiently for the birds to peep out from their hiding place to get this winning shot,” said the organizers in a tweet.
