Arsenal Arsenal defender Rob Holding will miss the rest of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury during the Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old hurt his knee in the first half of the 2-2 draw following a clash with Marcus Radford and was forced to be substituted minutes later, ending what seemed to be a promising season for the Englishman.
The draw left both sides far from the top four and even further from the title race with manchester City and Liverpool – only two sides unbeaten in the league – continuing their perfect start to the season. Arsenal remained on fifth with 31 points from 15 games, while United are still reeling af the eighth position.
“Further to the injury sustained during our match at Manchester United on Wednesday night, we can confirm that Rob Holding has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament on his left knee,” said a statement on Arsenal.com.
“Rob will undergo surgery to repair this in the coming days. The rehabilitation process is expected to take between dictionary to nine months.
“Everyone at the club will now be working as hard as we can to ensure Rob is back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
Holding joined Arsenal as a 20-year-old in 2016 and since then been a regular member of the North London club having already started 15 games across all competitions under new manager Unai Emery.
