The Maharashtra Police’s Raigad unit on Wednesday raided the home of Republic TV owner Arnab Goswami. They arrested the Chief Editor in a 2018 abetment to suicide case. Arnab has been arrested under Section 306 and Section 34 of IPC. As he was being led to the police van Goswami alleged that he was physically assaulted by the cops.
As reported by senior police officer Sachin Vaze to newsroom post. Goswami was arrested in the abetment to a suicide case of 2018, which had been closed earlier and has now been reopened.
No sooner did the news of Arnab’s arrest became public many came out in his support. Actress Kangana Ranaut, Union Minister Smriti Irani, Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar condemned the assaut and slammed Maharashtra government.

Union Minister Smriti Irani tweeted, “Those in the free press who don’t stand up today in support of Arnab, you are now tactically in support of fascism. You may not like him, you may not approve of him, you may despise his very existence but if you stay silent you support suppression. Who speaks if you are next?”
Prakash Javadekar tweeted, “We condemn the attack on press freedom in Maharashtra. This is not the way to treat the Press. This reminds us of the emergency days when the press was treated like this.”
