Director Anubhav Sinha has had enough and is ‘resigning’ from Bollywood. The Thappad director made the announcement through Twitter and even changed his Twitter handle to ‘Anubhav Sinha (Not Bollywood)’. He wrote: “ENOUGH!!! I hereby resign from Bollywood. Whatever the f*** that means.”
His tweet got support from other filmmakers such as Sudhir Mishra and Hansal Mehta. Moreover, Sudhir Mishra went on to tweet about his disillusionment from Bollywood soon after. He tweeted: “What’s Bollywood?I came 2be partof Cinema inspired by Satyajit Ray ,Raj Kapoor,Guru Dutt,Ritwick Ghatak,Bimal Roy,Mrinal Sen , Hrishikesh Mukherjee,KAsif,Vijay Anand ,Javed Akhtar,Tapan Sinha, Gulzar ,Shekhar Kapur,Ketan Mehta , Bharatan n Aravindan etc.Thatswhere I’ll always be.”
However, Anubhav Sinha clarified that he was not resigning from filmmaking. He stated that he just wanted to be left out the next time Bollywood was under discussion. Director Hansal Mehta also jumped in on the quit-wagon and wrote: “Chhod diya. It never existed in the first place.”
The tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput has reopened the debate on nepotism in Bollywood. As Mumbai Police investigates the case, there have been a lot of opinions about how outsiders are treated within the industry. Everyone from Kangana Ranaut, Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker, and Anurag Kashyap have been tweeting about the subject.
Anubhav Sinha is known for films like Mulk, Article 15, and Thappad. In the past, he has directed films such as Shah Rukh Khan and Kareena Kapoor starrer Ra.One. His first film Tum Bin, which completed 19 years earlier this month, is still quite a fan favorite.
