Anti-corruption crusader and social activist Anna Hazare is in a mood to protest against the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government for not implementing Lokpal. He had said that from October 2, he will go on a hunger strike at his native village Ralegan in Maharashtra. Hazare has also appealed to the people to join the movement for a corruption-free country.
Complaining that though the Narendra Modi government assured him that they will appoint a Lokpal and implement the Lokpal Bill, passed in the Parliament in 2014, but have not fulfilled the promise, reports TOI. He said, “I will go on a hunger strike from October 2 the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at my native Ralegan Siddhi village in Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra.”
Hazare was also of the opinion that there is a lack of will in the Union government to curb corruption and that is why they are delaying the appointment of Lokpal in the country. He said, “There is a lack of will in this government to curb corruption and hence, it is giving a lot of reasons and delaying the appointment of the Lokpal.”
It is to be noted that even the Supreme Court had questioned the Union government on their stance on appointing Lokpal and had expressed their dissatisfaction over the delay. Taking the cue for there, Hazare is again in the mood to protest and go on a hunger strike. Previously too in 2011, Hazare went on a 12-day hunger strike, which became a mass movement and forced the then ruling government to come with Lokpal Bill.
