On Monday, Anil Deshmukh resigned from his post as the Maharashtra Home Minister hours after The Bombay High Court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to starts an investigation into the corruption allegations levelled against him by former Mumbai police commissioner Param Bir Singh.
NCP leader Nawab Malik said Anil Deshmukh met Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and offered his resignation. “I don’t want to continue as Home Minister as an investigation is on,” said the resignation letter of Deshmukh.
In his resignation letter, Anil Deshmukh stated that he doesn’t find it ethically correct to continue as the home minister after the Bombay High Court’s order.
News agency ANI tweeted: “After the high court order, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh met Pawar Ji & party leaders & said he doesn’t want to remain in the post. He went to tender his resignation to the CM. Party has requested to the CM to accept his resignation: State Minister & NCP leader Nawab Malik”
In March, the former Mumbai Police chief Param Bir Singh made the allegations in an eight-page letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and alleged that Anil Deshmukh had asked suspended Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze, who has been arrested in the SUV case and is in NIA custody, to collect Rs 100 crore from Mumbai’s restaurants, bars, and hookah bars. However, later, Deshmukh soon issued a statement denying the allegations.
