The Maleficent: Mistress of Evil star opened up on how the novels and the movies had a story line where girls relied on men to be strong. For a couple of weeks, Angelina Jolie had been travelling around the world. Jolie had been attending several premieres related to her upcoming film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.
At a press conference, on the Disney film, the 44 year-old actress was quoted saying, “I think that, so often, when a story’s told which says “this is a strong woman”, she has to beat the man, or she has to be like the man, or she has to somehow not need the man,’ she said.
Angelina said that in the case of Maleficent and Aurora both the women need love and learn from the men around them. According to the BBC, the actress reportedly said that this is an important message for the young girls where they find their own power but also to respect and learn from the men around them.
“We have strong women, but the character that is wrong in the film and has to be taken out is also a woman. We show very diverse types of women between our characters, but also we have extraordinary men in the film, and I really want to press that point,” she added further.
The film Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is all set to hit theaters on October 18, 2019.
