Anaishaa Nahar defies age to win MSSA U-8 chess title

Six-year-old Anaishaa Nahar of Vibgyor High School Goregoan west outwitted players who are almost two years older to her with a magnificent display of her cerebral skills to lift the coveted  Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA) Under-8 girls title. Anaishaa scored an outstanding  of 6.5 out of  possible 7 games while in the boys’ category, Jai Vardhan Raj secured top spot with a score of 7/7.

The Prestigious Inter schools Chess Championship conducted by Mumbai City District chess association (MCDCA) concluded at Dharavi Sports Complex on Wednesday. This year, the meet witnessed a record number of entries of around 1800 players in all the categories across various schools in Mumbai.

Currently preparing for the world youth chess championships to be held in Greece at the end of this month, Anaishaa is a reigning Maharashtra Under-7 state champion and won several International titles in past too. The six-year old now plans to win the national championship and becoming a Grandmaster remains his top priority.
