Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been selected for the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award – India’s highest film honour – this year. The news was shared by Union minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday evening. He took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “The legend Amitabh Bachchan, who entertained and inspired for two generations, has been selected unanimously for Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The entire country and the international community are happy. My heartiest congratulations to him.”

Amitabh Bachchan has several prestigious awards in his kitty. The septuagenarian actor was awarded the Padma Shri in 1984. In 2001, he was feted with the Padma Bhushan, 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015. He was also conferred with France’s highest civilian honour, the Knight of the Legion of Honour, by the French Government in 2007 for his “exceptional career in the world of cinema and beyond”. Bachchan, whose career spans over five decades in the Hindi film industry, has also won the prestigious National Award for his performances in ‘Agneepath’, ‘Black’, ‘Paa’ and ‘Piku’.
