The film industry has been hit hard this week with the death of two of its beloved stars. After the sad demise of Irrfan Khan, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor passed away on April 30. As the sad news broke out, celebrities rushed to pay their respects to the late actor through social media amid the lockdown.
The funeral was held keeping the restrictions of the nationwide lockdown in mind. Everyone at the funeral was seen wearing a mask to adhere to the lockdown guidelines. Actor Ranbir Kapoor was teary-eyed as he performed the last rites of his father Rishi Kapoor at the funeral. He was accompanied by his Brahmastra co-actor Alia Bhatt who also broke down and cried. She was standing besides Ranbir’s mother Neetu Kapoor. The funeral was held at Mumbai’s Chandanwadi crematorium.
Kareena Kapoor and her husband Saif Ali Khan were also present at the funeral to bid their last farewell to the veteran actor.
Ayan Mukerji, who is a close friend of Ranbir Kapoor, was also present at the funeral. Abhishek Bachchan, son of Rishi Kapoor’s longtime friend Amitabh Bachchan, also paid his last respects.
Rishi Kapoor’s daughter Riddhima, who lives in New Delhi, has been given permission to drive to Mumbai to be with her family in the tough times. The funeral proceeded without her.
Earlier in the day, the Kapoor family issued a statement.
“He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in Force. He would not have it any other way.”
We offer our heartfelt condolences to the Kapoor family.
