Al Jazeera may shut down in India following home Ministry’s security withdrawal
International English news channel, Al Jazeera, might stop its broadcast in India after the home ministry withdrew the security given to the channel.
A report in NDTV said that the Qatar-based channel has appealed to the central Indian government against the withdrawal of its security clearance, but the final decision is still awaited.
The report also stated that an official from the home ministry refused to give any insights and instead directed it to the ministry of information and broadcasting, which the official said was responsible for taking the decisions on any issue of broadcasting license given to a media house.

“Our role is limited to matters related to security clearance. The decision on cancellation of the broadcasting license will be taken by the ministry of information and broadcasting,” the official was quoted as saying by NDTV. While another said that the security clearance was given by the home ministry on December 3, 2010, and withdrawn on May 29, 2018.
But it is reportedly believed that a documentary published by the media outlet on the current situation of Jammu and Kashmir may have upset the government, which led to such a decision.
