Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, who has brought taboo topic such as menstrual hygiene on the silver screen, took to Twitter and wished all mothers, sisters and girls Happy Menstrual Hygiene Day today. Akshay Kumar, who is known for portraying different characters, made all possible efforts to end Taboos around menstruation through his film Padman.
Taking to Twitter Akshay Kumar wrote: “Happy #MenstrualHygieneDay to all the Girls, Mothers and Sisters. Lets all help every girl child feel Hygienic, Safe & Confident every day of the month #Period ??”
Earlier he had announced that he will flag off a nationwide run to “beat the stigma around periods”. In a press release issued by Akshay Kumar had stated that the run will be held in over 500 cities across over 20 states to end taboos around menstruation.
Akshay was quite excited to be partnering with the event organisers to encourage “an open and unashamed discussion on menstruation” with the fellow citizens, pad heroes, change makers and the path-breakers.
“The International Women’s Day is a significant day for women and girls across the world, a day when women are not only celebrated for their achievements and contributions in all sectors of life but a cold reminder of inequalities that exist in our society..,” the press release reads.
“The International Women’s Day serves as a fitting day for everyone to come together to tackle menstrual taboos,” he added.
On the professional front, Akshay Kumar is currently shooting for his upcoming film Houseful 4, which also features Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Kriti Sanon, Riteish Deshmukh, Pooja Hegde and Kriti Kharbanda in the lead role.
