‘Drishyam’ is a remake of the 2013 Malayalam-language film of the same name and it starred Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav. The film was theatrically released in India on 31 July 2015 and created positive reviews from the critics. On Friday, Mohanlal starrer ‘Drishyam 2’ released on Amazon Prime Videos, and it has been garnering a lot of appreciation.
Now, it looks like the makers of the Hindi film are all set to return with a sequel with the original cast Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead. As per a report in Bollywood Hungama, Devgn and Kumar Mangat have decided to buy the rights to remake and now, they are all set to put a team together to bankroll the project. For the film, Ajay has even decided to block dates for the shooting later this year and will return with Tabu for Drishyam 2 and the makers are eyeing to go on the floors in 2021, right after the ‘Singham’ actor wraps up his other films.
Shriya and Ishita are also expected to return in the sequel, however, the only major change will be the director. The first part was directed by Nishikant Kamat, but he passed away last year and the makers are currently discussing who they can pitch this film to helm, but they will mostly sign Jeetu Joseph to direct the Hindi version as well.
The official announcement about the same is yet to be made. Till then, stay tuned to The Live Mirror for more updates.
