Ponniyin Selvan: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to play dual roles in Mani Ratnam’s next

Bollywood diva and Miss World 1994 pageant, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is all set to make her comeback in Kollywood with Ponniyin Selvan. The beautiful actress has been away from the Kollywood film industry since she delivered a blockbuster film Enthiran. As per the latest report, Aishwarya is playing a dual role in Mani Ratnam’s next film, Ponniyin Selvan.

After giving many super hit movies like Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, Mani Ratnam is currently working on Ponniyin Selven and for which he has roped several biggies including Jayam Ravi, Amala Paul, Karthi, Vikram and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. As per the report, Amitabh Bachchan has also been approached to play a crucial role in the movie.

Similar to his previous films, the latest project will be a pan-Indian film which will be simultaneously made in multiple languages. The Devdas actress was among the first actors who confirmed being part of the star-studded film.

If a report in India Glitz is to be believed, Aishwarya Rai would be playing the role of Nandini, wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, the second most powerful person in the Chola kingdom. The latest buzz is that she will be also seen in the role of Mandakini Devi aka Singala Naachiyaar aka Oomai Rani, the mute queen and mother of Nandini.

It would be an interesting to see Aishwarya Rai playing the role of a mother and daughter in  Ponniyin Selvan. It is reported that it would be the most challenging project of her career.

The film is said to be based on a novel of the same name Ponniyin Selvan, which was written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. The male actors of the film have been asked to grow their hairs and manes.

Produced by Lyca Productions, shooting of Mani Ratnam’s upcoming flick is likely to begin in November.
