Aircel Maxis Case: Got sanction to prosecute P Chidambaram, CBI tells court
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) told a Delhi Court that it has obtained the requisite sanctions to prosecute former finance minister and Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram in Rs 35,000 crore Aircel-Maxis money laundering case.
However, P Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram have been granted protection from arrest till December 18. The protection was extended after the CBI said it needed two weeks to get sanction against others accused in the case.
The CBI is probing alleged irregularities in the grant of foreign investment approval in the Aircel-Maxis deal, while the Enforcement Directorate is probing alleged money-laundering in connection with the deal.
Earlier, the CBI, in its reply to the anticipatory bail plea of Chidambaram, had alleged that Congress leader was not cooperating with the investigations.
