Covid-19 Outbreak: Air India To Operate 18 Flights For Foreigners Stranded In India Due To Lockdown

Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become a world crisis now. The pandemic has spread like a wildfire all across the world. There are people who are stuck in various parts of the countries and they are not being able to return to their homes as most countries are under lockdown. On March 24, PM Narendra Modi addressed the nation and announced a 21-day lockdown in the country. Only the essentials commodities shops are exempted from this lockdown. Also, operations of domestic and international flights are stopped to curb the spread of the novel Coronavirus.

There are many foreigners in our country currently stranded. As reported by DNA, Air India will operate 18 flights for citizens of Germany, Canada, France, Ireland who are stuck in India on the request of the concerned embassies.

Chairman and Managing Director of the airline Rajiv Bansal said, “AI has entered into commercial contracts with these countries to run charter flights for their citizens.”

He further said that all essential things like sanitisers, gloves, personal protective equipment will be provided to the cockpit crew, cabin crew and the ground staff. The cabin crew will also quarantine themselves after the flights.

Also, the airline will also operate a cargo flight from Delhi to Hong Kong to bring back medical equipments like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from April 4-5.

Earlier, Special Air India flights had also brought back Indians from countries like Italy, Iran, China that are highly affected by the virus. On March 22, a special flight of Air India brought back 263 Indians from foreign.
