India’s Lovlina Borgohain assured herself of a medal after she won her contest against Australia’s Kaye Scott in the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships on Tuesday to proceed to the semi-finals.
Borgohain won the quarter-final bout by an unanimous decision 5-0. Scott maintained a strong defence in the first round and somehow landed some blows on the Indian.
But Lovlina roared back in the second, as her relatively all-round game gave her the momentum which she carried onto the third round. Borgohain’s attacks were well-defended by the Australian although she landed some blows on the former.
This comes after Mary Kom had guaranteed herself a medal earlier in the day by making it to the semi-finals of the event.
