The Worlds Largest Cricket Stadium was inaugurated in Ahmedabad today by President Ram Nath Kovind. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and others. It took place before the debut international cricket test. The Stadium has now been renamed Narendra Modi Stadium.
The day-night third Test between India and England will be the first match the first international match at the new venue. The third India-England Test will mark the beginning of a new era as the pink-ball game. The 1,10,000 capacity stadium is the biggest cricketing venue in the world, surpassing the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.
The refurbished stadium at Motera in Ahmedabad, set up by the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA), is the dream project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had conceived it as President of GCA and Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2014 to demolish the old stadium completely and rebuild in its place a new one which would be the largest in the world with the best of facilities.
Last year the biggest Namaste Event was hosted here was the welcome ceremony of United States President Donald Trump.
