A massive fire has broken out in a Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) factory in Ahmedabad. The fire blazed at Unicharm India Pvt Ltd, an arm of the Japanese firm Unicharm Corporation. They are the makers of diapers and other such products.
25 fire tenders have rushed to the spot and fire fighting operations are currently on. The factory is located in the Sanand industrial area of Ahmedabad. No casualties have been reported so far even as the fire continues to rage.
ANI quoted KT Kamariya, Ahmedabad SP (Rural) as saying, “24 firefighters are involved in the operation. As raw material inside the factory is flammable so it has become to difficult control the fire. I’ve been told by a representative of the factory that the fire broke out due to short circuit. No casualty“.
As the huge flames spread, nearby factories were evacuated. The blaze continued to rage for more than two hours.
Apart from the 27 fire tenders, fire brigades from other parts of Ahmedabad have also reached the spot. More details are awaited.
