Mumbai city is all set to get a mounted police unit to control traffic and crowd. It is after a gap of 88 years that the mounted police is making a comeback to the city. Ace designer Manish Malhotra has designed the uniform for the mounted police. He was recently felicitated for his collection of ceremonial uniforms at Umang 2020, the annual Mumbai Police show. Malhotra, was honoured by the Commissioner of Police, Maharashtra.
Speaking to IANS Malhotra said, “The uniform is a short sherwani which is hand embroidered with threadwork on chest and sleeves. It has elaborate shoulder epaulets that make it look royal. It is paired with the traditional Maratha warrior Pagdi with a gold Dori wrapped around it and has traditional Indian breeches as a pair of bottoms. There is a gold sash and a red velvet cummerbund that all sums up to be a royal policeman look on the horse.”
The mounted police will be deployed on duty after taking part in the Republic Day parade at Shivaji Park this year.
This isn’t the first time Manish Malhotra has done something rather atypical of him. Last year, the ace designer had designed clothes for the staff of Oberoi Udaivilas and the City Palace for pre-wedding ceremonies of Isha Ambani and Anand Piramal.
On the work front, Bollywood’s favorite designer is also working on Karan Johar’s period drama ‘Takht’. His fashion label too has completed 15 years.
