For the unversed, Abhinandan was captured by Pakistani army after he knocked a Pakistani F-16 and then his Mig-21 aircraft was shot down. He then landed in Pakistani territory and was interrogated by the army for almost 60 hours and then the Pakistani government decided to release him “as a peace gesture”. He was released and handed over to India through the Wagah-Attari border on March 1, 2019.
Abhinandan’s gunslinger moustache has gained immense popularity and many youngsters have even tried the style.
Abhinandan is the pride of our nation and his bravery story has been included in Class IX Social Science textbooks in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education had inserted his story in one of the chapters, “Rashtriya suraksha evum shaurya parampara (National security and tradition of valour)”
