The legendary Sachin Tendulkar on Monday said that he felt nostalgic as India defeated Australia for the first time in a decade in a Test match with a 31-run win in Adelaide.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “What a way to start the series!#TeamIndia never released the pressure. Superb batting by @cheteshwar1 with crucial knocks in both innings, @ajinkyarahane88 in the 2nd innings and excellent contributions by our 4 bowlers. This has brought back memories of 2003. #INDvAUS.”

Tendulkar was reminded of the historic triumph of the Indian team that he was part of way back in 2003 where Rahul Dravid had scored a match-winning 72 after a solid 233 in the first innings to help the side go over the line. Ajit Agarkar starred with the ball as he took six wickets in the second innings.

In this match, it was a defiant and resilient 123 from Cheteshwar Pujara that helped India hold on despite a batting slump. It was largely due to his efforts that India could manage 250 in their first innings. The Saurashtra batsman stood up with the bat in the second innings as well as he helped India post a 300+ total that would be a tough ask on the hosts.

In the fourth innings, the Indian bowlers turned up the heat in style with Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami scalping three wickets each as Australia were bowled out for 291 runs, despite a spirited show from the tail-enders.
