Though not for the first time, it’s again a shot in the arm for Trinamool Congress in a legal tangle that involves TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee and BJP national president Amit Shah. In a defamation suit filed by Banerjee against the BJP supremo, the Bankshall court in Kolkata summoned Shah to be present before the eighth Metropolitan Magistrate Court on September 28.
It was on Wednesday when Banerjee’s advocate Sanjay Basu filed the case on behalf of his client Banerjee before the Metropolitan Magistrate court, Banerjee was personally present in the court on Wednesday.
It may be recalled that during a BJP rally in Kolkata on August 11, Shah had raised several allegations of corruption against the TMC and Mamata Banerjee. The allegations included Saradha, Narada, Rose Valley and many other corruption cases that have hit the reputation of the Mamata Banerjee-led party in last six years or more.
In the rally, the BJP president also didn’t shy away from attacking Banerjee (the complainant) personally by addressing him as ‘Bhanja’ (nephew) and elaborated on his corruption too. Shah was sent a legal notice on August 13 demanding an apology after TMC accused the BJP supremo of making defamatory comments and an ultimatum was given to Shah which Shah failed to furnish and thus the suit was filed on Wednesday.
Basu, advocating for Banerjee, mentioned in the court that BJP president’s ‘false’ remarks caused his client grave loss of reputation. “Since it is well known that my client is the nephew of Smt Mamata Banerjee and is actively involved in politics, the contents of your speech left little to the imagination of my client’s well-wishers that you were referring to my client,” the notice to Shah read as stated by Zee News.
Meanwhile, Banerjee denied all allegations levelled against him by the BJP supremo.
