AB De Villiers amongst others included for South Africa’s new T20 tournament

Proteas’ star AB De Villiers was included on Monday in a list of 12 major players who would compete in South Africa’s new Mzanzi Super League Twenty20 tournament.

Six overseas players alongside six from South Africa who would be the marquee players, as stated at a Cricket South Africa media briefing. The draft is scheduled to take place on Wednesday in Johannesburg.

The leading overseas players include the likes of England’s ODI skipper Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy and Dawid Malan alongside Carribean stars like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and star leg-spinner from Afghanistan Rashid Khan.

Known as cricket’s ‘Mr.360’. De Villiers who put an end to his international career this year is all set to represent the Tshwane Spartans, based on his home ground in Centurion.

South Africa’s skipper Faf Du Plessis will represent Paarl Rocks in Cape Town. The other South African stars are Hashim Amla (Durban Heat), JP Duminy (Cape Town Blitz), Kagiso Rabada (Jozi Stars) and Imran Tahir (Nelson Mandela Bay Giants).

The competition is set to begin from November 15 and would continue till December 16.

Thabang Moroe, the chief of Cricket South Africa said that players from all around the world wanted to be a part of the league.

“We have received applications from over 200 top international players who expressed interest in playing in this inaugural tournament and will have their names in the hat ahead of the player draft process,” he said.
