Uttar Pradesh Police have on Friday found Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Naveen Das charred to death inside a burnt down car. The police said that they were informed about the burnt car by morning commuters, who were passing from the area.
Informing more about the incident, police said that they (commuters) spotted the charred vehicle in a secluded spot in Bhopra on the road leading to Loni from Sahibabad. Police said that the fire could have occurred around 2.30 am. From the place of incident, police have recovered an unscathed mobile phone.
According to the police, though the car caught fire at 2:30 am, the last time Das’s WhatsApp messages were founds was 4:30 am. The kin of Das have alleged a foul play. They suspect that someone called him to the deserted spot, locked him inside the car and then burnt the vehicle. Also, the keys of the car are missing, which says that Das would have failed to roll down the power windows or escape by unlocking the doors.
Sister of Das claim that she spoke to him last at around 12:30 am and they discussed plans of renting a house in Delhi, informed Shlok Kumar, Superintendent of Police (City). Police have registered a criminal case against the unknown persons in Sahibabad police station and are investigating the matter. Also, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited the bereaved family.
