Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announce divorce; to continue co-parenting Azad 

Star couple, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao shocked their fans with the official announcement of their separation. The two of them have been married for 15-years and now they announced the divorce. They have shared the news in a joint statement on Saturday i.e July 3. Both of them will continue co-parenting their son, Azad Rao Khan and will also keep working on their professional partnership for the Paani Foundation and other projects.

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have been apparently planning their separation for a while now. With the official announcement of their separation, their plan to ‘modernize this arrangement of living separately’. Film critic Taran Adarsh shared their joint statement on Twitter, which read, “In these 15 beautiful years together we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love. Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other. We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together.”

For the unversed, Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao apparently met each other on the sets of Lagaan. She had worked as an assistant director for the production. The two of them got married on December 28, 2005. The actor was previously married to Reena Dutta, with whom he has two children- Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan’s son is now 9-year-old.
