On Wednesday August 4, Indian wrestlers Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia stormed into the semifinals. Ravi Dahiya defeated Bulgaria’s Georgi Vangelov in the 57kg freestyle category. He did this with a comprehensive 14-4 margin

Deepak Punia defeated China’s Zushen Lin in the 86kg category with a 6-3 margin in the quarterfinal bouts.

In the semifinals that are taking place this afternoon, Ravi Dahiya and Deepak Punia will fight it out for a right to enter the gold medal fight. Ravi Dahiya will take on Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev in the 57kg category. Deepak Punia will take on United States’ David Morris Taylor in the semifinal.
India’s bright medal contender Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday qualified for the final of the javelin throw event. at the Olympic Games with a stunning first attempt of 86.65m. He has qualified for the finals in his first attempt itself. This was Chopra’s seventh-best throw and third-best of the season 2021.
Competing in his first Olympics, the 23-year-old sent the spear well past the qualifying mark of 83.50m in his first attempt. He finished ahead of gold-medal favourite and 2017 world champion Johannes Vetter of Germany. The men’s Javelin throw final will be on August 7 at the Olympic Stadium.
