Jiah Khan Case: Sooraj Pancholi’s Trial in Suicide Case Moved To CBI Court
Sooraj Pancholi's Trial in Jiah Khan Suicide Case Moved To A Special CBI Court
Actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case has been moved. The trial in which actor Sooraj Pancholi is accused of abetment to suicide has been moved to a CBI court. After eight long years since Jiah committed suicide, the case will now be heard by a special CBI court.
The trial in the case began in March 2019 with little progress. A sessions court was conducting a trial against Jiah Khan’s boyfriend actor Suraj Pancholi. It was on charges of alleged abetment. The court has said that the trial should be transferred to a special CBI court.
The Session Court judge said, “In the present matter, the investigation is carried out by CBI/SCB (which) filed a supplementary charge sheet. The special courts are established for the trial of cases exclusively investigated by CBI and a special judge is appointed to deal with said cases. I do not have the power to deal with cases filed by the CBI. Therefore, in my view, it is necessary to transfer the present case to CBI court.”
Advocate Prashant Patil, who represents Sooraj in the trial, says, “The order granted by the Hon’ble Sessions Court to transfer the said case to Special CBI Court is a welcome move for my client, Sooraj Pancholi.”
The Pancholi’s are relieved that the trial will finally get expedited and everyone will find due closure.
Jiah was found hanging in her Juhu home by her mother Rabia on June 3, 2013. Pancholi was arrested on June 10, 2013, and granted bail in July. He is facing trial under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) under the Indian Penal Code.
