Ghost Stories: Complaint filed against Anurag Kashyap’s Netflix film, here’s why

Netflix’s anthology horror film, ‘Ghost Stories’ has landed into legal trouble after a complaint has been filed against Anurag Kashyap regarding a graphic scene starring Sobhita Dhulipala.
Earlier, there was no censor board-style committee in the Indian OTT market for a long time. However, early this year, the Information Technology (Guidelines for Intermediaries and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting were modified.
According to this, India’s streaming providers must put in place a procedure to let the viewers address grievances and issues raised.
The complaint notes, “The scene is not required for the story, and if the creators wished to add such a scene, there should have been a trigger warning for women who have gone through the trauma of miscarriages,” reported Mid-Day. The complainant has expressed that a scene where Sobhita Dhulipala is seen swallowing the foetus from her miscarriage.

Netflix’s spokesperson told Mid-Day, “As this was a partner-managed production [RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment], we reached out to the production company to share the complaint.”
According to the guidelines, the complaint moved by users has to be registered within 24 hours and resolved at the earliest. Currently, the matter is pending with Netflix’s Grievance Redressal Officer (GRO).
‘Ghost Stories’ consists of four short film segments directed by Karan Johar, Dibakar Banerjee, Zoya Akhtar, and Anurag Kashyap. It is co-produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Ashi Dua under their production banner RSVP Movies and Flying Unicorn Entertainment respectively.
The film also features an ensemble cast including Mrunal Thakur, Avinash Tiwary, Janhvi Kapoor, Raghuvir Yadav, Vijay Varma, and Pavail Gulati.
