Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu wins her first match against Ksenia Polikarpova

Indian badminton player, PV Sindhu showcased a strong start at the Tokyo Olympics campaign. She made a win in her group-stage match on Sunday i.e July 25 at the Musashino Forest Plaza. With her stable game, she defeated Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova in the first straight games — 21-7, 21-10, which took place in 29 minutes.

For the inversed, PV Sindhu has been drawn in Group J along with Polikarpova, who is ranked 58, and Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi. It was a slow start from the Rio Olympics for Sindhu, from being a silver medallist with down 1-3 before making it 5-5. This time around, she won 12 straight points to take it to 17-5 before closing out the first game 21-7. There was no starting trouble in the second as this Indian player completed the first-match win in just 29 minutes. Her next match is slated against Cheung Ngan Yi representing Hong Kong on Wednesday i.e July 28.

Sindhu is hoping to bag the gold medal this time around as she regrets losing the gold in Rio after getting defeated by Spain’s Carolina Marin, who withdrew from the Tokyo Games after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Talking about her, Sindhu apparently stated that, “miss her and that rivalry on the court. Even though she’s not there it’s still not going to be easy.”
