COVID: Delhi government extends lockdown till May 17

On Sunday, the Delhi Government announced that the Coronavirus lockdown will be extended for a week. The Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal said that a stricter lockdown will be imposed this time. The restrictions will now stay in place till 17 May.

During the lockdown, the government of Delhi has also suspended the services of Delhi Metro. Earlier, the metro was available in the morning from 8 am to 10 am and evening 5 pm to 7 pm peak hours with a frequency of 30 minutes.

News agency ANI confirmed the news and tweeted as: “Delhi lockdown extended by a week till May 17; Delhi Metro services to be suspended during this period: CM Arvind Kejriwal.”

Arvind Kejriwal said that they are using the lockdown period to boost their medical infrastructure and to increase oxygen beds at various locations. At present, the oxygen situation has improved in Delhi and they are not getting panic or SOS calls from hospitals now.

The CM also announced that they have also started vaccination in Delhi and have made excellent arrangements in the schools in Delhi. He said that youngsters are participating in large numbers for the vaccination. However, there is a shortage of vaccines but he is hoping that the Central government helps them.

Earlier, a six-day lockdown was announced by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 19 April, which was later extended to 3 May and then 10 May.
