COVID-19: Karnataka announces 14-day lockdown from tomorrow

On Monday, Chief Minister of Karnataka BS Yediyurappa announced lockdown across the state from tomorrow for 2 weeks amid surge in the COVID-19 cases. The lockdown will come into force from Tuesday night at 9 pm and will end on May 9.

During the press conference, the Chief Minister stated that the deadly virus is spreading aggressively across the state. It’s worse than Maharashtra and Delhi. He also said that people will have to cooperate only if, they can achieve their target.

The CM also announced that his government will vaccinate people above the age of 18 years free of cost at government hospitals across the state.

Here’s what’s allowed and what’s not:

• Essential groceries will be allowed to be purchased between 6 am to 10 am.
• No public transport allowed during the curfew.
• Only construction, manufacturing, and agriculture sectors permitted to work.
• Inter/intra-state travel will not be allowed on these days, except for emergencies.

The decision of the lockdown comes after Karnataka reported the highest single-day surge of 34,804 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases and 134 deaths on Sunday. On Saturday, Karnataka’s previous single-day record was 29,438 cases.
