Indian cyber agency warns WhatsApp users of multiple vulnerable reports

Facebook-owned WhatsApp has yet again started making headlines over its vulnerable behavior. Last year this message-sharing application was alleged of leaking users’ data on search engines. It made millions of users to make a shift to other apps such as Telegram and Singal. Now India’s renowned cybersecurity agency CERT-In has cautioned WhatsApp users about detecting the vulnerability reports on the application, which is capable of breaching sensitive data.

Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has caused users against WhatsApp apparently after detecting few vulnerable behaviors within the software. The agency has alerted that this message-sharing application could lead to a breach of sensitive information. The advisory reportedly said, “Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in WhatsApp applications which could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code or access sensitive information on a targeted system.”

“Exist in WhatsApp applications due to a cache configuration issue and missing bounds check within the audio decoding pipeline. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow the attacker to execute arbitrary code or access sensitive information on a targeted system,” it stated further.

For the unversed, this is not the first time that the Indian cybersecurity agency has alerted users against WhatsApp. Last year in November, the cyber security companies had issued similar warnings.
