French President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The news was confirmed by his office in a statement issued. The Elysee Palace in Paris said he was tested after showing early symptoms. The President will now isolate himself for seven days but will continue his work remotely.

Macron is the third leader of a Group of Seven nation to contract the virus. After U.S. President Donald Trump, U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. French Prime Minister Jean Castex is also self-isolating.
France is in the middle of a resurgence of the virus. The nation has reported 17,915 new cases in 24 hours on Wednesday, and 289 new deaths. The government had imposed a second partial lockdown in October. They have eased the restriction. But a nationwide overnight curfew from 8 pm is still on to halt the spread of the virus.
Not only France even Germany and the United Kingdom are facing the second brunt of the virus. In Germany, Chancellor Angela Merkel has imposed a nationwide lockdown that will extend over Christmas. In the U.K. Johnson is allowing households to mix over the holiday.
The United Kingdom has already started its vaccination programme. France expects to receive 1.16 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine by Dec. 30.
