On Friday i,e July 24 China ordered the revoke of the license for the US consulates in Chendgu, post the United States ordered the country to close its Houston consulate earlier this week. The tensions have been rising between the two countries over several key issues. The foreign ministry of China said the closure was a “legitimate and necessary response to the unreasonable actions taken by the United States”, as per the statement.
“The current situation in China-US relations is not what China desires to see, and the US is responsible for all this,” the statement read further.
The United States apparently cited Chinese theft of intellectual property, the Justice Department unveiled the indictment of two Chinese nationals, who were alleged of hacking hundreds of companies and attempting to steal the Coronavirus vaccine research in the country. On Tuesday i.e, July 22, the US government informed China that it had to close its consulate in Houston, Texas, by the end of the week. The same evening, unidentified people were seen burning paper in the bins in the Houston building’s courtyard. The video also circulated on social media.
Now, China reacted in a tit-for-tat move ordering the closure of US Consulate in Chengdu. And its foreign ministry spokeswoman stated that the reasons given by the US for closing their consulate were “unbelievably ridiculous”.
