88 Killed In Lightning Strikes, Thunderstorms In Bihar, Prime Minister Modi Condoles Deaths
More than 100 people are reported to have died in incidents of lightning in the past 24 hours from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Bihar reported more than 80 deaths whereas the count in Uttar Pradesh was far less. The heavy thunderstorm and lightening also caused widespread damage to property in the last two days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his grief at the deaths caused in the two states. He wrote, “I have received the painful news of loss of several lives due to lightning and heavy rains from some districts in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The state governments are assiduously carrying out relief operations. I express my condolence to the families of the victims of this tragedy.”

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a compensation of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the victims.

The weather office has predicted thunderstorms in all the 38 districts of the state over the next few days.
