Producers Guild Of India Releases Official Statement After INOX Expressing Displeaser For OTT Release Of Films

The Coronavirus pandemic lockdown has really affected the entire nation, people and businessmen’s started facing financial losses to a huge extend. The lack of finances and resources has apparently pushed businessmen to make new streams of earning in the lockdown. Bollywood industry which is known for producing a good sum of income in the country has been completely shut for more than two months now. Filmmakers are finding out new ways to release their films, which are already in the pipeline. As the makers of ‘Gulabo Sibabo’ recently announced its direct release on Amazon Prime Videos, the theatrical giant, INOX Cinema expresses its displeasure for the OTT release of the films in Bollywood. And now, the Producers Guild Of India releases its official statement stating the need of the time.

More and more filmmakers are considering releasing their films on OTT streaming giants, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and others platforms. The films that have already been announced for direct release on OTT platforms are Janhvi Kapoor starter, ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. Vidya Balan’s ‘Shakuntala Devi’, and Amitabh Bachchan-Ayushmann Khurrana’s starrer, ‘Gulabo Sitabo’.

The Producers Guild took to their official Twitter handle and shared a statement. The statement reads, “The Producers Guild would like to emphasize that we are unequivocally and passionately supportive of the theatrical release of films, and a theatrical release will always be the preference for movies that were conceptualized as cinematic experiences. But these are unprecedented times for all the reasons.”

Considering the extended lockdown in the entire country, it is believed that more and more filmmakers would come forward to release their projects on online streaming giants. This will surely affect the theatrical culture in the country.
